On my knees I ask
A promise to be mine
Will you be my valentine?
I have nothing new to add to what you might have already read related to this D-Day Poems have been penned, stories have been given and even the history of Valentine’s Day has been well dictated. So, I concluded that whatever I contribute must be different and yet symbolic to the theme of Valentine’s Day.
Have you ever wondered that why so much hype comes in package with Valentine’s Day? I have and more I think about it, the more I feel that love is such a mystery that no matter how much you try to understand it, there will always be a face hidden behind a veil, revealing itself only when the time comes. No wonder, these days each novel I pick up is yet another love story especially involving people of our age.
Love from what I have known and experienced in these few years of my life is something that goes beyond the realm of words and yet each and every one of us have our own respective definition for it. What is my definition of love? As a teenager, it was a crush or an infatuation. As a booklover, I found love in those tiny words of “Gone with the Wind”. The newfound adult in me found it wrapped in the glitter of the “modernization”, more and more used as fashion statement. Yet I kept searching for what love truly means to me. My search led me to my heaven on this earth, my home.
Today, I can proudly say that my father is the epitome of love. I have asked for one and I have been given thousands. I just had to look back and his hand would always be there to support me, hold me each time I fell. Some might wonder that are we celebrating Valentine’s Day or Father’s Day. From where I see, I would say neither. What we are celebrating is love. A love that has nurtured me like a princess from the day I entered this world. A love that guided me through all the obstacles. A love that is a vitality for my existence. A love that faced my fears with me and above all a love that accepted me for who I am, with no expectations. No other love can be as self-less as the love of a parent.
A very HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY to the best man in my life. Thank you for making my life beautiful. I leave you with the lyrics of my favorite song – “The first time I saw you, I saw Love. The first time you touched me, I felt love and after all this time, you are still the one I love” Celebrate love. Celebrate life.
